Maintenance Tip For Yamaha Outboard ( Also For Other Outboard Brand ) | I'm sure your Yamaha Outboard has made a horrible squealing noise as it was lowered. Sounded like metal on metal or a piston going bad - never a good sound. Luckily I knew what it was and how to easily fix it.
The rods the engine sits on need to be lubricated or else they make that awful noise. Not sure about other brands but I'd imagine most use a similar rod set up to lift / lower engine.
Just use Mercury special lube 101 ( really , that's the name ) and smear a little on the top of the rod and also up inside where rod fits into the engine bracket. It's easy to get to when engine is raised. That's all it takes to get rid of that noise.
You just also smear a thin layer along the sides where engine bracket slides. Needs to be done 1-2 times a year for your boat and literally only takes a minute to do.
